It's now less than two weeks until West End goes to the polls to elect a new City Councillor. No mater who wins on the day - and I'll leave that decision up to you, dear readers - they'll have a big job on their hands filling in the shoes of the remarkable Helen Abrahams.
The Westender was delighted to attend a community farewell for Helen down at Souths recently, where a Who's Who of community leaders took turns to laud her to the rafters, praising her commitment, dedication and energy in serving the people of West End (under sometimes very difficult circumstances.)
I noticed that even the LNP candidate has joined in the chorus of congratulations with a Tweet praising her (which somehow neglected to mention his own party affiliation.)
This enews carries a lengthy interview with Councillor Abrahams, and is well worth reading.
There are also a number of opinion pieces from local community groups on the topic of planning. It may seem like a remote area of interest to some, but the Local Area Plans, City Plans and other similar legislation are vital to the future of our neighbourhood. Get informed, get involved, and make your own ideas, opinions and feelings known to the City Council and State Government. We're the ones who will have to live with the decisions made on our behalf, so make sure they get it right.
Cheers, and have a good read.
