Opportunity Knocks at Kurilpa Point

For three years community interests in West End have campaigned for a truly visionary outcome for the Kurilpa Point redesign. This is a unique site of the last remaining significant inner city riverside that needs to serve all of the people of Brisbane. “It has always been the hope of the community that this opportunity creates in Brisbane an incredible urban neighbourhood ready for the century ahead of us. We remain of that belief,” said Dr Erin Evans President of the West End Community Association. “We welcome an announcement about the development of the Kurilpa Point area as the...

Plan to ‘rebrand’ Boundary Street raises concerns

A handful of traders and a large property developer propose a plan to ‘rebrand’ the heart of West End – Boundary St – based on “extensive consultation of the plan”. The details of this plan have not been made public, however the claims of consultation are highly questionable. This plan for Boundary St appears to be a rogue idea peddled by the current President of the West End Traders Association (WETA), local real estate agent Leo Tsimpkas. The year that was – WECA

We hit +2,000 members on Facebook and consistently tracked above 20,000 views on posts. We learnt that one thing that sends shudders through the halls of government are organised, informed community groups on social media. Your engagement makes a difference. WECA celebrated its 10th year as an...

Kurilpa Riverfront could be the new Southbank

Back in the 1980s the former National Party premier Joh Bjelke-Petersen cut a deal with private developers for South Brisbane’s land once Expo88 was completed. It was a secret affair done for special interests. In the end the people of Brisbane rejected being cut out and they campaigned for the continuation of a great community asset. The result was Southbank. The Kurilpa Riverfront Master Plan site in Brisbane is 1 1/2 times the size of South Bank. It has a total area of 25 hectares. It is a once in lifetime opportunity to develop the last, large-scale holding within Brisbane’s CBD. The impressive scale...
