Get excited for Brisbane’s most exciting independent performing arts festival, brought to you by Ruckus Slam, one of the most loved experimental arts collectives.
Ruckusfest runs over two days on Friday 5 and Saturday 6 November at The Old Museum in Bowen Hills, with a Friday night cabaret extravaganza, followed by a full Saturday of interactive creative arts workshops and performances. The festival features more than 35 artists & collectives presenting a wide variety of performing arts including theatre, live music, poetry, puppetry, stand-up comedy, improv and roving acts, as well as unusual offerings like an adult bubble show.
Arts lovers can expect to laugh a lot at the Friday night cabaret including comedians Sandeep Totlani and Anisa Nandaula, and circus thrills from Abbey Church and Regan Ainslie. Plus Brisbane’s favourite MC duo, Ruckus co-founders Meg Bartholomew and Angela Peita.
Saturday includes a range of fascinating arts workshops including beat boxing, tarot-inspired poetry writing, sea shanty singing, sock-puppet workshop with performance development, dance workshops and immersive face-painting.
Plus more than 15 original performances from award-winning beatboxer Hope One, rising-star performance artist Siobhan Gibbs, 18+ -bubble show performer Miss Bubbles, multipotentialite MJ O’Neill, theatre and dark clown actress Anna Straker (The Boy Who Ate Teeth), and lauded poet Zenobia Frost.
Brisbane is a hotbed of creative contemporary artists, makers and creatives. Ruckus Slam is one of the most dynamic collectives, who are well known for their popular monthly slams, including Brisbane’s longest running monthly poetry slam and West End favourite, Wham Bam Cabaret Slam.
