Welcome to our Exhibition.
It is with the greatest pleasure that we welcome you to our showcasing beautiful and unique clothing and ceramics.
Based in Brisbane, Australia, Aiko and Keiko wish to share with you their love of things Japanese and their new found love of Australia.
These unique designers are a mother and daughter team who combine vintage kimono, froshiki and obi fabrics to create special one of a kind dresses, tops, bags and new discovery in ceramics.
It all started in the 1930s, when Aiko’s grandmother (Kaoru) studied dressmaking in Tokyo. These skills were passed onwards to Keiko and then to Aiko. Granddaughter Aiko picked up a needle at the age of three. Kaoru had a love for the simple beauty of bonsai and transferred that simplicity to her dressmaking.
Beauty and effective simplicity has become the calling card for their creations.Living in Brisbane and working with children, Aiko and Keiko rediscovered the joy of creativity and began to create fashion items that have both a touch of Japan and the unique quirkiness of Australia.
It was this inspiration that led to this new label J-KOs.
The name “J-KOs” has a special meaning to these designers. “Ko” is Japanese for children and shows respect for Kaoru as they are both the child and grandchild of a wonderful Tokyo dressmaker. “Ko” is also a part of the word “Taiko” meaning drums. The written form for the word ‘Taiko” is made up of two kanji. The first kanji means joyful or happy. The second kanji means to support each other. The combination of these two kanji indicates the touching of one’s heart with a beat.
J-KOs wants to touch your heart with a beat when you wear their designs knowing that your design is yours and yours alone.
Please share the experience and enjoy our designs!
