West End film-makers Benjamin Robert Hetherington, Alex Barnes and Julian Curtis are calling for community assistance to complete the production of their short film, Power the Kid.
Power the Kid. a mixture of live action and VFX/animation, deals with the plight of domestic abuse in the home, and more specifically physical abuse against women and children.
According to Producer Ben Hetherington, the film aims to spread the message that victims of domestic abuse need to seek out help, in order to stop the cycle of violence.
Louisa and her two children Callum and Jane, live in constant fear of Louisa’s live-in boyfriend, Grahame.
In addition to dealing with domestic abuse in the home, Power the Kid also exposes the ugliness of alcoholism, through Grahame’s abuse of alcohol.
Power the Kid conveys the positive message to victims of domestic violence that the only way to stop the cycle of violence, is to stop being a victim, and seek help.
Jane acts as the conduit to this message by reaching out to social worker Miss Thompson, for support.
Through Callum’s overactive imagination, the audience is sucked into a comic book fantasy realm (complemented by stunning VFX and animation) in which he and hissister Jane, play heroes Power the Kid and Dark Raven.
Their arch-nemesis Insidious becomes the fantasy incarnation of their real-life enemy, Grahame.
A short trailer is currently published on YouTube, and potential backers of the film are invited to visit the Pozible crowd-sourcing site for more information.
