The MV Pacific Link medical ship will tour the east coast of Australia dropping anchor in sixteen ports from February to August.

School students, service clubs, medical professionals, and government officials from each town and city will have the opportunity to tour the vessel, meet the crew, donate their unwanted spectacles or register their interest in future projects.

In August 2010, the Pacific Link’s crew, including marine professionals, optometrists, dentists, nursing staff and young volunteers, will bring expert medical assistance and supplies to the people of Papua New Guinea. YWAM will renew sight via cataract operations, along with the distribution of spectacles to the vision impaired, dental checks and supply of mosquito nets to combat malaria.

The Honorable Mike Reynolds AM, Patron & Former Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland said, “I would encourage all young Australians to seriously consider being involved in the upcoming 2010 PNG Ship tour.

This is a real opportunity to make a difference to people in a developing country that requires our assistance.” Parliamentary Secretary for International Development, Honourable Bob McMullan, said, “The Australian Government’s aid program is working with recognised community organisations, such as YWAM, to raise awareness and community action for the estimated 1.4 billion people living in poverty globally.

The Australian Government is proud to support YWAM and the Marine Reach project. Not only is this project making a real difference to disadvantaged communities in PNG, it is providing unforgettable experiences for the volunteers involved.”

Since 1991 YWAM ships have been to 160 ports in sixteen nations giving no-cost essential services to the value of $37 million to more than 200,000 people. “The key to the success of the Australia & PNG Ship Tour is long term partnering, planning and nurturing relationships between government agencies, businesses, the medical community, educational institutions, churches and NGOs.” Ken Mulligan Managing Director.
