Blockbuster Jurassic World by Brickman® exhibition opens at Queensland Museum

8th December 2023 - 14th July 2024

Jurassic World by Brickman®

Anticipation has been building and now the wait is over as the Jurassic World by Brickman® exhibition roars to life at Queensland Museum tomorrow, 8 December.

The iconic exhibition created by Ryan ‘Brickman’ McNaught, brings Jurassic World to life through large-scale dinosaurs, props, scenes and activities made from over 6 million LEGO® bricks.

Queensland Museum Network CEO Dr. Jim Thompson said this summer visitors can experience one of the world’s most iconic movie franchises through LEGO bricks.

“With an astounding 8,000 people signed up to our waitlist within two weeks, we knew Jurassic World by Brickman® was a blockbuster in the making for Queensland Museum,” Dr Thompson said.

“Our visitors have been counting down the days to the opening of this iconic exhibition and we cannot wait to welcome you to the museum to experience the wonder of Jurassic World in LEGO® bricks.”

Minister for Arts Leeanne Enoch said Queensland’s love of dinosaurs will be celebrated with the awe-inspiring exhibition Jurassic World by Brickman® at the Queensland Museum, just in time for the Christmas school holidays.

“Queensland’s renowned dinosaur history has been enriched in 2023 with significant dinosaur discoveries in the outback, three colossal dinosaur-themed exhibitions at Queensland Museum and the Government recently announcing the Muttaburrasaurus as our State Emblem,” Minister Enoch said.

“Now rounding out the year, and for the first time in Queensland, the largest LEGO® exhibition in Australian history promises to delight visitors on an epic scale.

“The Queensland Government is committed to supporting Queensland Museum to program exciting and inclusive blockbuster experiences, to reinforce Queensland’s reputation as a leading cultural tourism destination.”

Visitors to Jurassic World by Brickman® begin by walking through the iconic 4-metre-tall Jurassic World gates to experience the island itself, then the inner workings of the Jurassic World lab, where dinosaurs are genetically engineered.

Explorers will then venture to the baby dinosaur enclosure, where a life-size LEGO® brick Brachiosaurus awaits, that weighs well over 2 tonnes! Journey past a flock of Pteranodons, then learn how to track dinosaurs across the island before encountering escaped Velociraptors Blue and Delta and, of course, an enormous T. rex – a favourite of many Jurassic World fans.

The Brickman is a highly skilled team of LEGO® brick model builders and craftspeople, led by one of the world’s leading LEGO® brick artists, star judge of the hit TV show LEGO® Masters Australia, and only LEGO® Certified Professional in the southern hemisphere, Ryan ‘Brickman’ McNaught.

Ryan ‘Brickman’ McNaught is thrilled to be bringing the experience to Brisbane for many more Jurassic World and LEGO® enthusiasts to enjoy.

“I know fans in Brisbane will be blown away by the scale of the experience – some of these models are the most complex and challenging ones we have made to date, so being able to bring them to Brisbane is just fantastic.” McNaught said.

In the Jurassic World by Brickman® experience, LEGO® fans will have an opportunity to channel their inner ‘Brickman’ with a myriad of activities, from island building, LEGO® palaeontology and discovery through mystery mosaics, hybrid dinosaur creations, learning to track a dinosaur by creating species footprints, and even building escape vehicles to get away from a Tyrannosaurus rex. With 2.5 million bricks to play with, creativity will not be in short supply!

“Jurassic World and LEGO® fans of all ages are going to be in awe at the wonder and thrills that this experience provides, from hands-on building adventures to massive builds of some of your favourite dinosaurs” said Jo Pascoe, Universal Brand Development Vice President of Consumer Products for Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia.

Geoff Jones, Chief Executive Officer of TEG, shared in the excitement for the Brisbane launch of this larger-than-life LEGO® experience.

“It’s great to be able to bring the exhibition to Brisbane. We’re thrilled to be able to share this iconic experience with all those families and fans in Queensland,” said Jones.

Jurassic World by Brickman® will run from 8 December 2023 to 14 July 2024 at Queensland Museum.
