Derby Values – Fun First!
The Derby is first and foremost a celebration — a joyful, ridiculous, and heartfelt community street party. It’s not about raising money or delivering a product. It’s about collective joy, play, and connection.

Since the very first Kurilpa Derby rolled through West End in 2007, this event has been a love letter to life lived on wheels – a community celebration of creativity, connection, and colour.
The day begins with a lively street parade, gathering under the Dornoch Terrace Bridge at 1:30pm, before rolling down to a car-free festival zone filled with quirky races, DIY floats, live music, skate demos, and more. Boundary and Russell Streets are transformed into a safe, vibrant space where everyone is welcome – and nothing is for sale. It’s a free event powered by volunteers, donations, and the incredible energy of our neighbourhood.

Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for this year’s program close at midnight, Friday 1 August – and we want to hear from YOU!
We’re especially keen to hear from:
🎸 Bands & Musicians (all genres – loud, local, and loved!)
🎭 Roving Street Performers
🧸 Children’s Entertainers
🎨 Artists with interactive or unique performances
🛼 Skate or wheel-based sports crews – demos, mini-events, roller disco hosts
🛠️ Workshop Hosts – float-building, bike-blinging, creative construction
🏠 Local spaces – available to host pre-event community workshops
🍲 Meal Makers – help with food preparation and distribution for end-of-day support
