Light at the end of the sewer tunnel!

The noise, dust and disruption caused by the Urban Utilities sewer mains project at the corner of Melbourne and Mollison Streets is coming to an end, according to the latest epistle from their Communications department. Here it is: With one week to go until the G20 and the end of our major works, we thought we’d better give you a helicopter view of Operation ‘Mollison Makeover’. Unlike the G20, our security fences are coming down and we are pleased to have the street and footpath reopened in front of the shopping centre. (see photos) With Colour Me Brisbane and...

Be a Superhero World Toilet Day

Dress like a Sanitation Superhero on World Toilet Day, Wednesday 19 November, to raise money and awareness for the 2.5 billion people living without access to a toilet. Protests erupt in the Pilliga

A Coonabarabran mother of three is this morning courageously halting work and risking arrest by stopping bulldozers in the Pilliga forest in north west New South Wales, where gas giant Santos has begun work for its latest round of coal seam gas exploratory drilling. Santos’ exploratory drilling program earlier this year was delayed and interrupted by repeated protests by farmers that rely on groundwater for their livelihood. Santos began clearing work on the latest round of exploration yesterday. Nicole Hunter has attached herself to a bulldozer to stop Santos clearing a patch of the forest for a new coal...
