Queensland e-bike owners have until the end of February to prepare for a compliance-label requirement taking effect on 1 March 2027. A useful first step is to check the exact bike’s documentation rather than assume every owner needs a new inspection.
The Queensland Government says an e-bike that meets EN 15194 and displays its compliance label does not need verification through the EPAC Assurance Scheme. The scheme is expected to open on 2 November 2026; that is an expected date, rather than confirmation it is already operating.
It covers eligible Legacy EPACs made before 1 July 2026, and eligible Special Purpose EPACs for riders with a disability or medical condition. Eligibility and successful assessment matter: it is not a way to legalise high-powered or otherwise illegal devices.
Owners should check the government’s scheme page for authorised verifiers, availability and current requirements when the scheme starts. Not every bicycle shop is an authorised verifier.
Labels are only one part of riding legally. Queensland’s current rules also cover rider age and licensing, exemptions, device specifications and where a bike may be ridden. Owners should check the guidance that applies to their situation.
For everyday recordkeeping, Brisbane-based EbikeMate provides free Bike Passports for supported e-bikes and e-scooters. Owners can keep vehicle identifiers, photos and supporting purchase or service records together. An owner who already has a Passport can finish that record rather than create another.
EbikeMate is an independent private platform. Its Passport is separate from the government compliance label and does not certify road legality, establish legal title, replace a police report or guarantee theft recovery. E-scooter Passports do not bring scooters into the e-bike assurance scheme.
