South Brisbane arts organisation BlakDance will receive $29,346 to reach new markets and develop new work as part of Arts Queensland’s Projects and Programs Fund.
Member for South Brisbane, Jackie Trad, said funding would assist BlakDance to deliver a three-day Indigenous dance forum, Dana Waranara – The Convergence.
“The Palaszczuk Government is proud to support BlakDance to provide a platform for contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander dance practitioners to extend their work, and create career pathways for the next generation of Indigenous dancers and choreographers,” Ms Trad said.
“We are committed to supporting Queensland’s creative community, bolstering the development and growth of our local arts sector.”
Premier and Minister for the Arts, Annastacia Palaszczuk, said the latest instalment of the Projects and Programs Fund supported a total of 10 creative Queensland initiatives with funding of $278,274 for projects encompassing dance, theatre, music and the visual arts.
“This funding underscores my government’s commitment to fostering a dynamic and accessible arts sector for Queensland,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
“From 1 September 2015, a new Queensland Arts Showcase Program will commence, which will replace the Projects and Programs Fund.
“This exciting new Program will focus on creating employment and training opportunities for Queensland’s arts sector while supporting collaborations to provide quality arts and cultural experiences,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
