Businesses across West End are implementing creative solutions to adjust to the restrictions related to the coronavirus. One of those is the popular Saturday Davies Park Market.

Megan from Davies Park Market has confirmed that the market will open this Saturday, 28 March.

Magan told The Westender:

Davies Park Market is well known as farmers and produce market, despite the fact that we also have few food stalls and other non-essential stalls.

This Saturday, we are open with mainly produce and food stalls.

All food stalls are strictly limited to serving take away meals only.

There will be no seats provided by stallholders or the market management team. Moreover, there will be sufficient gaps between stalls to allow customers to exercise social distancing, especially when queuing.

We will put signs on vital areas make sure that all toilets remain open for everyone with standard hygiene.

The advice from health officials is to avoid leaving home where possible and to only go out where absolutely necessary.

Non-essential gatherings have been suspended. However, the Government has allowed food markets and farmers markets to continue to operate at this stage.

The Queensland Government has applied the following restrictions for the provision of takeaway:

  1. social distancing, including keeping 1.5 metres between people must be accommodated, implemented and monitored by employees or contractors of the retail food service provider;
  2. gathering for the purposes of ordering or collecting must not exceed one person per 4 square metres;
  3. the retail food service provider may only operate to the extent they are not promoting or facilitating persons consuming takeaway food or drink on or adjacent to their premises.

Example: tables and chairs should be removed and all reasonable steps taken by the retail food service to direct persons away from gathering to consume takeaway food or drink on or adjacent to, the relevant premise.
