An iconic heritage-listed factory will be transformed into a colourful canvas of flowing images as part of the entertainment planned for the official launch of West Village on May 1.

West Village is a landmark project designed to transform a 2.6 hectare site in West End’s evolving Boundary Street precinct into a vibrant community hub and exciting new destination for Brisbane.

West Village project director Andrew Thompson said a state-of-the-art light projection show would turn the old Peters Ice Cream factory into a dynamic canvas during the launch party.

The original Peters Ice Cream Factory, now known as Factory One, is one of two historic buildings at the heart of the West End project which will be revitalised as part of the development.

“We are inviting everyone to come along and help us launch the West Village project in true West End style,” Mr Thompson said.

“The usual Friday night markets will be extended for the launch and there will be roving entertainment and street food.

“We will also be celebrating the opening of the West Village Vision Centre on the night, where people can access information about the project and provide feedback.”

The Vision Centre will be adjacent to the West Village lawn on Boundary Street that is currently being transformed into an inviting green public space where people can catch up with friends.

The West Village launch party will begin with the animated light projection show on rotation from 6pm to 10pm on the Boundary Street side of Factory One.

Bordered by Boundary Street, Mollison Road, Wilson Street and Little Jane Street at West End, West Village is just 1.1 kilometres from Brisbane’s CBD.

The new precinct will include an eclectic mix of work spaces, traders, restaurants, community open spaces and laneways, and well-designed one, two and three-bedroom apartments.

Other planned key features include a commercial carpark along with bicycle parking and end-of-trip facilities.
