Nia-Australia-Brissie-tribeThis Valentine’s Day, 14th February, a number of organisations in Brisbane will be taking part in the global One Billion Rising campaign, where people around the world are encouraged to rise up through dance to express their rage against injustice, and demonstrate the power of global solidarity and collective action.

One Billion Rising

One Billion Rising takes place every year on (or around) Valentine’s day, and is the biggest mass action to end violence against women in human history.

In 2016, the theme of Revolution continues with a call to focus on marginalised women, and to bring national and international focus to their issues; to bring in new artistic energy; to amplify Revolution as a call for system change to end violence against women and girls; and to call on people to rise for others, and not just for ourselves.

As part of One Billion Rising, Nia Australia’s Brisbane community invites you to step into a safe and sacred space & discover how good it can feel to move your body. The event starts at 3.30pm and will finish by 5.30pm on Sunday 14th February.

Entry is by donation ($20 appreciated). All proceeds from this Jam will go to the Brisbane Domestic Violence Service.

At Nia Community Jams, people of all ages and backgrounds move together to raise $$$ for charity. If you have a body, you’re ready for Nia! Children are welcome.
