Local Brisbane resident Amelia Salmon and her organisation Just Earth have been chosen to participate in Dreamstarter 2015, an online crowdfunding platform supported by ING DIRECT, the School for Social Entrepreneurs and Start Some Good.
Just Earth, a fair food café, fair trade coffee roaster and physical and online retail store that creates jobs for disadvantaged women in the labour market, is among seven social change projects selected through a national shout-out to take part in Dreamstarter.
Amelia said “Just Earth creates positive social change by creating employment for women who are most disadvantaged in the labour market, as well as directing profits towards micro-enterprise development training and No-Interest-Loan schemes for Indigenous women and refugee women entrepreneurs”.
The first stage of the Just Earth project will be to the fit-out and launch the new business premises complete with coffee roastery, cafe, retail store and community hub space. The enterprise aims to provide employment to 22 disadvantaged people in its first year.
David Breen, Head of Corporate Affairs commented: “Just Earth is led by an inspirational businesswoman who is on a mission to contribute to social-economic inclusiveness for disadvantaged women. It’s great to have Amelia on board for Dreamstarter 2015.”
Since the launch of Dreamstarter in 2013, ING DIRECT has provided more than $117,000 in project funding to help 31 Dreamstarters leverage crowdfunding of up to $371,230.
